Two Factor Authentication (2FA) with Two Channel Protection (2CP)

Considered by many industry experts as the best security system for online transactions, the Two Factor Authentication (2FA) system was introduced by companies involved in the development of security systems after much research and analysis.

The 2FA works on the basic principle where online transactions will need User ID, Password (The User ID and the Password are commonly referred to as the ‘First Factor” which the user knows) and another entry, referred to as the ‘Second Factor’ to complete any transaction. Also known as the One-Time Password (OTP), the Second Factor is unknown and received as a SMS-OTP or created by the User with the help of a hardware device which in most cases is a Key Fob or a Smart Card.

This method is secure since the transaction is completed only after both factors have been verified by the system. However, Man-In-The Middle has posed a threat to 2FA and due to which, Two Channel Protection (2CP) has been added to enhance the security of 2FA.

2CP can only be deployed with SMS-OTP, which IDS has introduced successfully. .

Patients come from all parts of the country to many hospitals for medical tests and to provide blood, urine and other samples. Some patients are for regular check-ups such as Blood Sugar, Cholesterol etc., and the others are for random check-ups. Whichever the case may be, the Patients spend time and money on transport for this purpose.

Once the reports are ready for collection, the Patients have to visit the hospital again to take delivery of the same, once again spending time and money. This is becoming a problem for the Patients and also for the hospitals as the number of reports that should be delivered increase daily.

Innovative Data Solutions (Pvt) Limited (IDS) has developed a system to deliver medical reports through the Internet, which will ease the burden of the Patients and earn the hospital extra income, in addition to eliminating the cost of delivery.

• Secure delivery – the relevant report will only be accessible to the rightful owner of the report, which will be determined by the One Time Password (OTP) sent to the owner’s mobile phone, which acts as the Password that is needed to open the report

• Easy access – anyone who has the access to the Internet could take delivery of the relevant Medical Report, accessing from anywhere in the world for that matter. No need to visit the hospital thereby saving money and time for the Patient

• Reduced cost of printing – hospital will save money as all reports that are delivered through the web will not be printed

• Reduced cost of delivery – since most reports are delivered through the web, the hospital could reduce the staff needed to deliver reports, along with the cost incurred in managing such operations

• Additional Income for the hospital – as the hospital will be charging a small fee for delivering the report through the web, this will provide the hospital with an additional income which will be enhanced by the reduced cost

• Authentication of Reports – as an advanced option, the system will provide the Doctors who have the access to the web to verify the authentication of the report using Digital Signature which is embedded in the report

In fact, the proposed system will be much more secure than the manual delivery systems that are practiced by the hospitals today as such system do not verify the authentication of the person who is taking delivery of the report. Anyone with the Receipt of a Medical Report could collect the same by producing the report to the counter and the person delivering the report has no way of verifying whether the receiving party is the true owner of the report, in most cases, it is not.

The system will provide the facility to assign several authorized people who will be able to take delivery of the report, which will be necessary in the case where the Patient is a different hospital and will not be able to collect the report personally.

Internet Access is becoming everybody’s need as we are using the media for communication, commerce and a knowledge base. This is more evident in the case of travelers or hotel guests.

Email has become the way we keep in touch with each other and one key requirement of Guests is the facility to download their mail while they are in the Hotel. Also, accessing the Internet and connecting to their corporate networks has become another key demand of the corporate travelers.
