INTEGRATED SMS APPLICATIONS SERVER - (iServer-2000)

iServer-2000 is a versatile Applications Server which is capable of sending & receiving Short Messages, using GSM Short Message Service (SMS) and CDMA Instant Messaging (IM).

The system is ideal for medium or large scale business organizations that are planning to establish their own Mini Short Message Service Center (mSMSC) that is user configurable.

Whether it is cost effective two-way messaging or to handle complex Information On Demand (IOD) services, iServer-2000 will serve your needs with efficiency and reliability. In addition, the system could be configured easily to work side by side with any of your existing applications to send out Alerts based on your own criteria, controlled and configured by in-house MIS staff of your organization.

iServer-2000 consists of a File Server with Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, GSM/CDMA communications device and relevant communication software, which is built in to an integrated application server. The system could be installed on any existing Local Area Network or as a stand-alone device. Optionally, a wireless Access Point (AP) which is IEEE 802.11b compatible could be used to connect the Server with other wireless devices or to establish a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN).

The hardware is industry standard and of international repute to deliver 24 hour un-manned service. The system has built-in functionality to monitor the status of the Hardware and the Software and send alerts to pre-defined phone numbers in the event of any system failure. Auto-Recovery feature is in-built to re-start any communication software that may tend to "hang" due to un-avoidable hardware related situations. Optional Integrity Monitoring System (IMS) is available where the entire system could be monitored, remotely.

IServer-2000 has been designed based on the flagship product of IDS, Automated Service Monitoring System (ASMS).

Typical applications of the iServer-2000 are as follows.

There are three key services that iServer-2000 provides the users such as Instant Messaging (IM), Information On Demand (IOD) and Alert Messaging for a pre-defined criteria.

A typical scenario is handling Customer Request for service of an Office Automation (AO) service provider.

Field Service Management with SMS
Gestetner of Ceylon Limited (GCL) is a Office Automation service providers in Sri Lanka. GCL sells Gestetner, Photo Copiers, Fax Machines etc., in the capacity of the exclusive agent for Gestetner products in the country.

The CRM operation of GCL is centrally located in the capital city, Colombo. The Field Service is managed by Service Engineers who are stationed in various parts of the island. All customer calls for service, received at the head office are logged and the Service Coordinators call the Service Engineers on their mobile phones to convey the details of the Customer who needs service, nature of the problem, address of the customer where the equipment is etc., As Service Engineers are on the move all the time, reaching them by telephone has always been a problem faced by the Service Coordinators at the Head Office. Also, conveying a message verbally without keeping a record has created conflicting situations, which has eventually affected the organizations as a whole.

Therefore, GCL decided to utilize iServe-r-2000, to manage all messaging between the Service Coordinators and the Field Service Staff.

Now, the relevant information regarding a Customer service calls are conveyed immediately by the iServer-2000 to the respective Service Engineers by SMS. Such messages are automatically generated by the system, based on built-in and user configurable criteria. Also, the field staff is now able to send the information such as the time they reach the Customer, actual problem, time they complete the job etc., allowing the system to manage all information related to field service jobs, un-manned, 24 hours a day. Above all, calculating the response time accurately and with proof has increased the image and the service levels of GCL, apart from saving a considerable costs on communication.

As an enhancement, IDS is in the process of introducing GSM Fax Machines to the Field Service Engineers so that all short messages received could be printed in the field. Moreover, the system will allow the field staff to issue Invoices, Customer Credit Statements etc., as and when such action is required. Requested document will be generated at the Head Office, based on the information received by SMS. The final out-put will be printed in the field, with he Company Logo and other relevant information, which will be signed by the Field Service Engineer on behalf of the Company.

The enhanced system will also allow the engineers to call for detailed technical drawings from the Head Office, simply sending a request for such data by SMS.

Typical applications of iServer-2000 in various business segments are stated below.

AUTOMATED SERVICE MONITORING SYSTEM (ASMS)

The core of the iServer-2000 is an intelligent software suite, Automated Service Monitoring System (ASMS), developed and marketed by IDS. ASMS is a versatile two-way messaging system which is user configurable. A GSM/CDMA communications module is built-in to the system to provide efficient communication, utilizing the infrastructure of existing Cellular Service Providers.

Automated Service Monitoring Systems (ASMS) is a middle-ware component, which could be used as an inteligent two-way messaging system. ASMS uses GSM Short Message Service (SMS) to communicate between a computer and mobile phones. The typical message size is 160 characters and the system could be configured to use an existing software application or a hardware component to trigger messaging.

ASMS has two major components i.e a Business Logic Module (BLM) and a GSM Communication Module (GCM) which needs a GSM Modem or a Communication Module. The BLM is a mandatory component and it is seamlessly integrated with the GCM, depending on the application.

The communication infrastructure includes the existing Cellular Operators where SMS/IM of one or more operator is mandatory for the system to function.

BUSINESS LOGIC MODULE (BLM)
ASMS could be applied almost in any business to carry out two-way messaging, depending on the day-to-day activities of the operation. Based on the requirement of the user, the BLM could be configured to communicate with the GCM or the ICM to send and receive user-defined messages. The configuration is carried out externally and the changes will be sent to the user, in the form of a DLL or an OCX file, which could be installed by the user.

GSM COMMUNICATION MODULE (GCM)
The module has been developed based on a standard GSM modem such as WaveCOMM™ with extended AT Commands. The GCM has built in functionality to manage the modem without any user interaction. The module handles up to 30 messages in memory of the GSM Modem and as such the GSM Modem acts as a temporary message-storing device in addition to the Short Message Service Controller (SMSC) of the Cellular Operator.

ASMS is currently available on Windows 9x, 2000, NT or XP platforms in both LAN and WAN environments. The system does not demand for resourses and will work comfortably in any PC with over 64mb RAM and 20mb Hard Disk space to spare. One COMM port will be required for the GSM Modem.

Typical installations of ASMS are with applications developed by IDS, especially the flagship product, Totally Integrated Management System (TIMS). However, it could be used with any of the existing applications of the Customer in which case, detailed instructions with regard to the integration will be provided. If necessary, IDS could carry out the integration for which the customer will be charged in addition to the cost of the software/hardware provided as integral components of ASMS.

TOTALLY INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

Totally Integrated Management Systems, TIMS-2000 is a versatile business application, which is suitable for almost any business.

The system has been developed in Visual Basic with MS SQL Server as the back-end. The workstations could either be Windows NT or Windows 98/2000/XP.

All reports have been written using Crystal Reports v 8.0 and the system is true multi-user.

The system has six main modules such as Personnel, Finance, Purchase, Inventory, Sales and Service. All modules are seamlessly integrated and the data entry is on-line, if installed in a Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN).

The minimum configuration will require around ninety (90) Mb of free disk space and will run comfortably with 128K of RAM.
